  • Las tropas de Napoleón continuaron sus tropelías en Subijana de Álava

    Hace unas fechas nos hacíamos eco del asesinato de un vecino de Salcedo a manos de las tropas francesas en su retirada hacia Vitoria los días antes de la batalla de Vitoria pronto hará 200 años. Subijana de Álava, la siguiente etapa en el camino hacia Vitoria también sufrió incidentes parecidos. El 26 de Junio de 1813 el cura párroco de la localidad anota en su libro de difuntos que el 19 de junio de 1813
    se halló muerto en el monte a Marcelino Lopez de la Fuente de edad de cincuenta y quatro años a quien quitaron la vida los franceses en la retirada que hicieron ese mismo día Fue sepultado en el mismo monte por hallarsen empleados aquellos días los vecinos en dar tierra a los cadaveres.
    Pero no fueron estas las únicas consecuencias para Subijana del paso de los franceses. El 10 de agosto del mismo año el cura consigna el fallecimiento de una vecina, a quien se entierra en "el nuevo cementerio" y en su libro indica:
    ... recibió el Sto Sacramento de la penitencia pero no el viatico ni extrema unción por haber robado los franceses los vasos sagrados
    Estas anotaciones pueden contrastarse en el folio 344 del libro de difuntos de Subijana de Álava, disponible en el corte 4 del microfilm M00071 depositado en el Archivo de la Diocesis de Vitoria.
