    Un día como hoy, 21 de junio, de un lejano 1813, más de 20.000 militares pasaron por La Puebla de Arganzón camino de Vitoria. Eran los integrantes del ala derecha del ejército aliado cuya misión era desalojar a los imperiales de las alturas de los montes de Vitoria y facilitar el acceso del grueso del ala derecha por el boquete de La Puebla para librar la batalla en la llanada alavesa. Al mando de Hill, componían los efectivos aliados 4.551 efectivos de la 1ª división española al mando de Morillo (4 oficiales y 114 soldados murieron ese día); la 2ª división anglo - portugesa al mando de Stewart con 10.834 hombres de los que murieron 4 oficiales y 138 soldados; la División Portuguesa al mando de Silveira, con 5.287 hombres de los que murieron 6; la caballería ligera compuesta por las brigadas Alten y Long con un total de 1.399 hombres, y la caballería pesada de las brigadas Fane y Campbell con 1.050 hombres de los que murieron 3. Venían de Pobes, donde habían pasado la noche, y pasando por Tuyo comenzaron a llegar a La Puebla a eso de las siete de la mañana. Como quiera que el camino era estrecho, y las columnas venían muy estiradas, el transito de hombres y armas se prolongó durante horas. Los primeros en llegar, al mando de Morillo desalojaron al piquete de cazadores a caballo franceses que defendía el puente. Tras ellos pasaría la caballería de V. alten, y la división anglo portuguesa que se fue disponiendo junto al boquete de La Puebla. Para el mediodía el ruido de los disparos sonaba ya lejos de La Puebla de Arganzón, al otro lado del boquete y los montes que lo custodian. Atrás quedaban casi cuatro años de presencia francesa.
