  • Ana de Austria pasó por La Puebla en 1615

    Corría octubre de 1615  cuando la infanta Ana de Austria, hija de Felipe III, partió desde Madrid con destino a Burdeos, con objeto de contraer matrimonio con Luis XIII, rey de Francia e hija de María de Médicis. A la infanta, que contaba entonces con catorce años de edad le acompañaba el Duque de Lerma y un nutrido cortejo que descansó en Vitoria donde incluso le ofrecieron una corrida de toros frente al palacio de Escoriaza en el que se alojó. Antes de su llegada a Vitoria el 27 de octubre, el cortejo tuvo ocasión de atravesar La Puebla de Arganzón. El relato que reproducimos a continuación es obra de Pedro Mantuano, quien lo incluye en su obra Casamientos de España y Francia, y Viage del duque de Lerma, llevando la Reina Christianissima Doña Ana de Austria al paso de Beobia y trayendo la Princesa de Asturias nuestra Señora, que se imprimió en Madrid en 1618.
    De Miranda se fue cinco leguas a Vitoria, y en medio del camino está la Puebla de Arganzón, lugar del condestable de Castilla. Desta villa, apartadas un quarto de legua son dos sierras, y por  medio de ambas passa el rio Sadorra, por partes tan estrechas, que no ay de latitud dozientos passo, y en tiempo que la  guerra lo pedía, podía el señor de la Puebla labrar en lo alto dos foreteçuelos, con su artillería, con los quales detendría que la Provincia de alava no le estorvasse echar piedras, y peñas, demanera que cerrase la boca del río, y anegasse la mayor parte de aquella Provincia.
