  • La Puebla de Arganzón producía más de 10.000 litros de vino en 1753

    A mediados del siglo XVIII, el Marqués de Ensenada, ministro del Rey Fernando VI, realizó un ingente esfuerzo estadístico para la época remitiendo un cuestionario de 40 preguntas a los más de 15.000 lugares de sus reinos. Uno de estos lugares era La Puebla de Arganzón, y sin entrar en un pormenorizado estudio de la respuesta, que lo haremos, comentaremos hoy los datos que Federico Alonso ha elaborado en base a las respuestas a las cuestiones 9, 10 y 12 relativos a la presencia de viñedos y producción de vino en nuestra localidad allá por un lejano año de 1753. En esa fecha  se producían en La Puebla de Arganzón un total de 635 cántaras de vino (a 16,35 litros la cántara da un total de 10.242,55 litros). De estas 375 correspondían a tierras de tercera calidad, 180 a las de segunda y tan sólo 80 a las de primera. En total 230 obreros se ocupaban de estos menesteres, a razón de 20 para las tierras de primera, 60 las de segunda y 160 para las de tercera. La Puebla de Arganzón contaba entonces con 455 habitantes. Según nos indica el citado Federico Alonso pudieron ser dos los motivos fundamentales para la progresiva desaparición del viñedo autóctono. La baja calidad del vino producido frente al procedente de la Rioja que ya en esa época era adquirido en nuestra zona, y la baja producción por fanega, que hacía más rentable dedicar la tierra y el laboreo a otros productos. Según indicios apuntados por nuestro colaborador, los viñedos estarían ubicados en la parte sureste del municipio, zona que reune las características de proteción del viento norte y orientación al sol de mediodía. Quedan algunos restos de los mismos en el antiguo camino a Antezana y en un camino paralelo al mismo antes de llegar al puente de San Martín.
